Raw Vegan Info Point

Hello,

My name is Devin.  I'm a musician, and I try to live up to that word in every aspect I can.  I write music in a 20th century style, I play jazz piano and trumpet, I write songs and perform them with my guitar, I sing the blues, and I try to find the music in all things around me.

Before December of 2007, I was on a path of bodily destruction.  I ate fast food for my only two meals every day.  I smoked a pack of cigarettes every day.  I hadn't exercised in years.  I drank a venti quadruple-shot cafe Americano from Starbucks every morning (which was actually more like noon).  I had allowed myself to be a victim of commercialism, addiction, and laziness.

I stopped eating meat in mid-December of 2007.  I started running at least 3 days a week about the same time.  I quit smoking cigarettes on new year's eve.  I started buying fair-trade organic coffee, and now have stopped drinking it habitually.  I eat organic foods only, and I feel like I'm in much better control over my life.

I'm currently in the process of being an organic vegan, which has been difficult.  I'm transitioning, and I still use some products that don't fit into the vegan lifestyle, although they are natural/organic and strictly medicinal.

My heart tells me to go raw, to feel free of toxins and full of real life energy, but that's not easy in Southeast Texas.  There are no local organic farmers, and there are hundreds of carcinogenic toxins in the air and water.  Unfortunately I have little choice right now because of my job and lease, and I am sure many urban dwelling raw vegans have similar concerns.

My passion is and always will be music; however, I feel the knowledge I have acquired and my intense love for this planet and the life which inhabits it call me to try and educate all those with an open mind and a desire to change for the better.

A piece of unsolicited advice: Know the difference between actually living and merely avoiding dying, and apply that knowledge NOW.
